Elon Musk's platform X, previously known as Twitter, has announced significant reductions in subscription prices for its Indian users. This pricing overhaul, now effective on the official site, applies to all subscription tiers: Basic, Premium, and Premium Plus, with discounts reaching as high as 48% for both monthly and annual plans. The most notable change is in the Premium subscription for mobile users, which has plummeted to ₹470 per month from ₹900, marking a remarkable 48% decrease. For desktop users, the Premium monthly fee has also seen a reduction of 34%, dropping from ₹650 to ₹427. This discrepancy in pricing between mobile and web subscriptions highlights the influence of app store commissions, which typically inflate mobile rates. The Premium tier offers exclusive features such as a verification checkmark, enhancing user credibility and access to unique benefits. On the other hand, the Basic tier, which does not include verification yet provides functionalities like post editing and background video playback, is now available for ₹170 per month, down from ₹243.75. Additionally, the annual fee has been cut from ₹2,590.48 to ₹1,700, reflecting a 34% reduction. X has also slashed prices for its Premium Plus plan, with web users now paying ₹2,570 per month compared to the previous rate of ₹3,470. Mobile users are experiencing the most drastic changes, as the monthly fee has been slashed from ₹5,100 to ₹3,000. Premium Plus subscribers enjoy additional perks, including an ad-free experience and access to X's AI tool, SuperGrok. This pricing shift underscores X's strategy to expand its user base in emerging markets like India, where internet usage is on the rise and competition among social media platforms is increasingly fierce.
