Marvell Technology and Flex to join S&P 500 index, replacing Pool and Campbell's

Marvell Technology, a key player in the semiconductor sector, is making headlines as it prepares to join the S&P 500 index on June 22. This addition underscores the pivotal role that chipmakers play in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence landscape. Alongside Marvell, Flex, a prominent electronics contract manufacturer, will also be welcomed into the index on the same day. In a notable shift, these two companies will take the place of Pool Corp and The Campbell's Company. The news has already influenced stock performance, with Marvell's shares climbing 5% in after-hours trading. This surge follows a strong endorsement from Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang, who suggested that Marvell could evolve into the "next trillion-dollar company" due to their partnership. Adding to the excitement, Nvidia has invested $2 billion in Marvell, further validating its potential. Flex also saw a 4% increase in its stock during extended trading hours. As a manufacturer for leading technology firms such as Apple and Nvidia, Flex's inclusion in the S&P 500 highlights the growing significance of technology companies in the financial market. Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, Marvell was established in 1995 and initially focused on components for spinning disk drives. Flex, originally known as Flextronics, is based in Singapore but has a substantial presence with factories in both the U.S. and Asia. The recent changes to the S&P 500 reflect a broader trend of technology companies gaining prominence within the index, joining other notable firms like Veeva Systems and DoorDash in recent years.
