Tariffs, flight cancellations, OpenAI's spending reset and more in Morning Squawk

As the Winter Olympics conclude, athletes depart Italy with more than medals, while stock futures dip following a successful week for major indexes. Investors should be aware of several pivotal updates this morning. In a significant legal decision, the Supreme Court ruled against many of former President Donald Trump's tariffs in a 6-3 vote, stating that the existing law does not empower the President to impose such duties. In response, Trump announced a new global 10% tariff, escalating it to 15% shortly thereafter. Over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for much of the Northeast, leading to the cancellation of thousands of flights. Airlines waived change and cancellation fees as approximately 15% of scheduled U.S. departures faced disruption on Monday. This blizzard follows January's Winter Storm Fern, which similarly affected air travel. In another development, Trump called for Netflix to dismiss board member Susan Rice, asserting that the streaming platform should act immediately or face repercussions. This comes as the Department of Justice reviews Netflix's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, with Trump stating earlier this month that he would not be involved in the process. OpenAI has recently adjusted its projections, anticipating a total computing expenditure of around $600 billion by 2030, a significant reduction from the previously announced $1.4 trillion. This shift raises questions about the company's capacity to generate sufficient revenue to support such investments. OpenAI now expects to achieve over $280 billion in revenue by 2030, a stark contrast to the $13 billion reported last year. In the toy industry, Hasbro appears to be gaining an edge over Mattel as both companies navigate a challenging market. Hasbro's revenue surged by 14% in the last fiscal year, driven by its Wizards of the Coast division, which includes popular franchises like Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. Meanwhile, Mattel's net sales declined by 1%, even as it celebrates the 40th anniversary of its American Girl brand, struggling to maintain relevance in a digital age. Stay tuned for more updates as we track these developments throughout the week.
