In recent months, the Moon has become a focal point of interest, propelled by key decisions from influential figures and organizations. Among these, SpaceX founder Elon Musk's recent redirection towards lunar endeavors has sparked excitement about utilizing lunar materials for constructing large satellites. Simultaneously, NASA has shifted its narrative, emphasizing plans to establish a permanent base on the Moon's surface rather than solely focusing on the Gateway space station in orbit. This collective momentum from both the top space company and the leading space agency signals an increase in lunar missions on the horizon. Such developments are particularly encouraging for businesses with long-term aspirations centered on lunar exploration. In this context, two emerging companies, Astrolab and Interlune, have announced a partnership aimed at capitalizing on the growing interest in lunar activities. Astrolab is one of the contenders selected to develop rovers for NASA's lunar scientific missions, as well as to facilitate astronaut transportation. However, the company also caters to commercial clients, with Interlune emerging as a significant player in the long-term vision of lunar resource extraction. Rob Meyerson, CEO of Interlune, articulated their ambitious goal: "Ultimately, we want to build a fleet of electric harvesters that will go to the Moon and excavate, extract and separate Helium-3 from the lunar regolith. The FLEX Rover is a great platform to go do that." This partnership marks a pivotal step toward realizing the potential of lunar resources, particularly Helium-3, which is sought for its potential as a clean energy source.
