Lucid Motors doubled EV output in 2025 after early Gravity SUV struggles

In an impressive turnaround, Lucid Motors has doubled its electric vehicle production in 2025 compared to the previous year, signaling a recovery from initial hurdles faced with the Gravity SUV. The company disclosed on Monday that it manufactured a total of 18,378 EVs throughout the year, with a remarkable 8,412 units produced in just the fourth quarter. This production rate surpassed the output from its Casa Grande, Arizona factory during the first half of the year. Additionally, Lucid announced that it delivered 15,841 vehicles overall in 2025, marking a significant 55% increase from the figures recorded in 2024. This robust performance positions Lucid favorably as it prepares for a pivotal year ahead, which will see the debut of its first vehicle utilizing a new mid-sized EV platform. The anticipated starting price for this vehicle is around $50,000, placing it in direct competition with models like the Tesla Model Y and Rivian's upcoming R2 SUV. However, despite these gains, the current numbers still fall short of the ambitious projections Lucid Motors presented during its $4 billion reverse merger in 2021. At that time, the company had forecasted deliveries of 135,000 vehicles for 2025, including 86,000 Gravity SUVs, 42,000 Air sedans, and an additional 7,000 units from its yet-to-be-released mid-sized EV. These targets quickly became unattainable as Lucid faced a series of production, supply chain, and demand challenges, compounded by the disruptions in the automotive market triggered by the pandemic. The start of 2025 was particularly tough for the company as it began scaling up Gravity SUV production. Lucid has since encountered various quality control issues with the vehicle, prompting interim CEO Marc Winterhoff to reach out to customers in December to address their concerns. In his message, he expressed empathy for their frustrations, acknowledging that ongoing software challenges have negatively impacted the customer experience. He reassured customers that the company is committed to resolving these issues with utmost focus.
