Lucid Motors recalls over 4,000 Gravity SUVs citing improperly welded seat belts

Lucid Motors has taken a proactive step in addressing safety concerns by recalling over 4,000 of its Gravity SUVs. This decision comes after the company identified a significant issue with the seat belt anchors during routine safety testing conducted in January. The testing revealed that some anchors for the second-row seat belts were not welded correctly, raising concerns about their effectiveness in keeping passengers secure during a collision. The company reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that this issue arose after a change in manufacturing practices by their seat supplier, which occurred without prior notice or approval from Lucid. To rectify the situation, the supplier has reverted to the original design specifications set by Lucid Motors. The recall specifically affects Gravity SUVs manufactured before February 14, 2026. To ensure passenger safety, Lucid Motors will conduct inspections on all affected vehicles. Depending on the quality of the welds, the company will either install a new bracket or replace the entire seat to guarantee that the seat belts function as intended.
