Mac users relying on Logitech accessories have encountered a significant setback this week, as the company’s Logi Options+ and G Hub applications for macOS unexpectedly ceased to function. Users reported that their custom settings vanished overnight, reverting to default configurations. The issue stems from a security certificate that inadvertently expired, which has been confirmed by Logitech's Head of Global Marketing, Joe Santucci. In posts on a Logitech support page and Reddit, he explained that this expired certificate is crucial for securing inter-process communications, and its absence is what prevents the software from launching. Santucci acknowledged the company's oversight, expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to users. "We dropped the ball here," he stated, describing the situation as an inexcusable error. To address the disruption, Logitech has begun rolling out patches for both applications that include a new certificate. However, a significant hurdle remains: the expired certificate has also disabled the apps' built-in updater, meaning users cannot automatically receive the necessary fixes. Affected users will need to manually download the patches or the updated versions of the apps, which Logitech is actively developing. Each application will require a separate update for full functionality to be restored.
