In a significant setback for early adopters of smart home technology, Logitech has announced plans to permanently disable all Pop switches effective October 15. Launched in August 2016, these devices allowed users to quickly access various smart home functionalities, including integration with third-party products. The Pop buttons enabled users to execute multiple actions, such as adjusting Philips Hue lighting, playing music on Sonos speakers, or operating Lutron smart blinds, all through a straightforward setup connected to a shared Wi-Fi network. Each button could be programmed to store up to three actions, all managed via a dedicated app available for both Android and iOS devices. Initially, the Pop Home Switch Starter Pack was priced at $100, with add-on switches available for $40 each. A spokesperson for Logitech informed Ars Technica that customers were notified on September 29 about the impending obsolescence of their Pop switches. According to emails shared by users on Reddit, Logitech stated: "As of October 15, 2025, your POP button(s) and the connected hub will no longer be supported and will lose all functionality." To soften the blow, Logitech is offering affected customers a 15% discount on selected products, including its Ultimate Ears speakers. However, the offer is limited to the US market and valid until March 31, 2026, with exclusions for certain product lines, including gaming accessories and newly launched items. When pressed for further details about the implications of the deactivation, including concerns over electronic waste and the short notice given to consumers, Logitech’s representative reiterated the company’s decision, stating, "For close to a decade we have been maintaining the POP ecosystem, but as technology evolves, we have made the decision to end support for this device."
