LG’s $1,800 TV for seniors comes with an upcharge and AI button

LG is venturing into a niche market by introducing a television specifically designed for seniors. The new model, known as the Easy TV, was unveiled in South Korea and aims to cater to the unique needs of older viewers. One standout feature of the Easy TV is its remote control, which includes numbered buttons—a rarity in today's smart TV remotes. Many of these remotes often prioritize other functions over traditional numerical keys, leaving users confused. LG’s new remote not only includes number buttons but also provides essential controls for switching inputs, as well as play, pause, and fast forward options, all with larger labels for ease of use. This thoughtful design extends to a special button that allows users to quickly return to the last channel, making it easier for seniors to navigate back to their preferred program after distractions like accidentally launching an app or switching to another device. In addition to these enhancements, the remote also features buttons for popular streaming services, ensuring easy access to content. Moreover, LG has updated its webOS operating system to highlight five key features tailored for seniors, utilizing larger fonts for improved readability. While many functionalities are similar to those found in LG's other TV models, the Easy TV emphasizes elements that the company believes will be particularly beneficial for older adults. This includes options for medication reminders, integrated video calling to connect with family for support, and built-in games designed to promote mental agility. Through this innovative approach, LG aims to create a more accessible and enjoyable viewing experience for senior citizens, addressing their specific needs with technology that enhances their daily lives.
