LG’s new subscription program charges up to £277 per month to rent a TV

In a bold move to reshape how consumers interact with technology, LG has unveiled a new subscription service in the UK that enables customers to rent a variety of devices, including TVs, soundbars, monitors, and speakers. Under the LG Flex program, users can choose from flexible subscription terms of one, two, or three years, allowing for more manageable monthly payment options. According to the LG Flex website, at the conclusion of the subscription term, customers have several choices: they can opt for a complimentary upgrade, continue with monthly payments, or return the rented device altogether. A £50 fee, approximately $69, is applicable for a comprehensive removal service that includes dismounting and packaging of the rental equipment. LG has emphasized a customer-friendly approach by stating that they will not impose penalties for minor wear and tear, such as scratches or small dents. However, any significant damage to the rental items may incur repair charges as specified in the rental agreement. Additionally, LG's partner, Raylo, offers insurance options to protect against accidental damage, loss, or theft of the rented devices. For those considering a rental, the pricing structure varies significantly. For instance, the 83-inch OLED B5 2025 TV is listed for £2,550 (around $3,515) on LG's UK website. Monthly rental fees can start at £93 ($128) for a three-year commitment but can rise to £277 ($382) for a single-month rental. Notably, under the three-year plan, customers may find themselves paying more in rental fees than the purchase price after 27 months, while the highest rental rate could exceed the manufacturer's suggested retail price after just nine months.
