Lenovo to partner with multiple AI LLMs, says CFO Winston Cheng at WEF 2026

Lenovo is embarking on a bold initiative to collaborate with a diverse array of large language models (LLMs) worldwide, as the company aims to position itself as a formidable player in the global AI landscape. Chief Financial Officer Winston Cheng shared these insights during an interview with Reuters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, highlighting the company's strategy to avoid dependence on a single AI provider. Cheng emphasized that Lenovo is actively seeking partnerships with various LLM developers to ensure that its range of devices, from personal computers to data center servers, can seamlessly operate multiple models. "We are one of the few companies, alongside Apple, that holds a significant market presence in both PCs and mobile devices, particularly within the open Android and Windows ecosystems," he stated. Unlike Apple, which has chosen to collaborate solely with OpenAI and Google's Gemini, Lenovo is pursuing a more inclusive approach by looking to establish relationships with several LLM developers. This strategy, described as 'agnostic,' aims to provide both corporate and individual users with greater flexibility in a fragmented AI market. Prospective partners mentioned by Cheng include Humain from Saudi Arabia, Mistral AI based in Europe, and Chinese firms Alibaba and DeepSeek. Lenovo’s current focus in research and development is centered on optimizing the interaction between hardware, operating systems, and various AI models. "We're adopting an orchestrator approach," Cheng explained, clarifying that Lenovo does not intend to create its own LLM but rather seeks to collaborate due to global regulatory complexities. This multi-model strategy is designed to enable Lenovo to navigate potential geopolitical challenges and adapt to varying regional regulations, all while maintaining strong ties with traditional partners.
