Legora reaches $5.55 billion valuation as AI legaltech boom endures

Legora, a cutting-edge AI platform tailored for legal professionals, has reached a remarkable valuation of $5.55 billion following a substantial $550 million Series D funding round. This influx of capital is set to enhance its expansion within the U.S. market, despite facing stiff competition from rivals like Harvey, as well as established players such as Microsoft Copilot and various large language models (LLMs). The market's volatility became evident when legal software stocks took a hit after Anthropic introduced a legal plugin for its Claude model. Nonetheless, Legora's foundation on LLMs, particularly Claude, combined with its unique focus on assisting lawyers with intricate cases, offers CEO Max Junestrand a sense of reassurance. "While it’s impressive that individuals can access their own personal lawyer through Claude, our platform addresses a different need," he explained during a livestream at the Techarena conference in Stockholm. Legora's commitment to seamlessly integrating into its clients' workflows has resulted in its platform being adopted by around 800 law firms and legal teams, capturing the attention of investors. The Series D funding was spearheaded by Accel, with contributions from existing investors such as Benchmark, Bessemer, General Catalyst, ICONIQ, Redpoint Ventures, and Y Combinator, along with new supporters like Alkeon Capital, Bain Capital, Firstmark Capital, Menlo Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, Sands Capital, and Starwood Capital. Investor enthusiasm for AI legaltech is on the rise, as evidenced by Legora's impressive Series D funding and valuation increase, which follows its $150 million Series C round in October 2025, at which time it was valued at $1.8 billion. Meanwhile, its competitor Harvey, backed by a16z, is valued at $8 billion and is reportedly seeking to raise funds at an $11 billion valuation. Both companies are reportedly on similar revenue growth paths and are expanding their global presence, with Harvey focusing on Europe and Legora targeting the U.S. Originally founded as Judilica and later rebranded as Leya, the startup is a proud graduate of Stockholm’s SSE Business Lab, a hub for unicorn startups. After completing Y Combinator's winter 2024 batch, Legora has established its headquarters in New York, eager to capitalize on the expanding U.S. market, where its growth has surpassed expectations compared to its European operations. "The ratio of legal spending is nine to one; it appears that Americans are much more inclined to pursue litigation than we are in Europe," Junestrand humorously noted during his address at Techarena. Legora's global team has seen exponential growth, increasing from 40 to 400 employees in just one year. The company now operates offices in New York, Stockholm, Bangalore, London, and Sydney, with plans for further expansion. In conjunction with the Series D funding, Legora announced the opening of new offices in Houston and Chicago, aiming to grow its workforce to over 300 employees across its U.S. locations by the close of 2026.
