As Apple prepares for its highly anticipated September product launch, speculation is growing around a new iPad Pro model. Traditionally, this event features the unveiling of new iPhones and Apple Watches, but the company often follows up with additional announcements later in the fall, typically focusing on Macs and iPads. Recently, the Russian YouTube channel Wylsacom shared an unboxing video showcasing what appears to be a retail version of a 256GB, 13-inch iPad Pro, powered by a new M5 processor that has yet to be featured in any Apple product. If confirmed, this would mark the first update to the iPad Pro line since the introduction of the M4 model in May 2024. Wylsacom gained attention for previously leaking the M4 MacBook Pro, lending credibility to this new revelation. Although the video contains critiques regarding packaging and the lack of bold design changes from Apple, it also offers initial performance insights for the M5 chip. Preliminary Geekbench 6 benchmarks indicate that the M5 processor enhances CPU performance by approximately 10 to 15 percent and GPU performance by around 34 percent compared to the M4 found in the previous iPad Pro. The M5 chip is expected to feature three high-performance CPU cores alongside six high-efficiency cores, matching the core configuration of the 256GB and 512GB M4 iPad Pros. Notably, the higher-capacity 1TB and 2TB models, as well as M4 Macs, include an additional performance core. While the exact number of GPU cores in the M5 remains unclear, the significant performance improvements suggest that Apple may have expanded the graphics capabilities beyond the 10 cores present in the M4. Factors such as increased clock speeds, faster RAM, and architectural refinements could all contribute to the performance leap, exciting fans as the release date approaches.
