Infinix, the budget-friendly smartphone brand rooted in Hong Kong, is reportedly facing significant challenges in the Indian market. The company's India CEO, Anish Kapoor, has reportedly stepped down amidst increasing internal pressures. Reports indicate that Kapoor's resignation occurred earlier in January, yet Infinix has not officially acknowledged his departure, leaving the position of CEO in India unfilled. The brand is currently navigating a storm of difficulties characterized by a decline in smartphone shipments and a narrowing product lineup. Internal conflicts have also surfaced between Infinix's Indian leadership and executives from its parent company, Transsion Holdings. The disputes largely stem from differing perspectives on the company's operational strategies and growth initiatives in the Indian market. Kapoor's vision for Infinix's direction clashed with that of the broader management, ultimately leading to his decision to leave. Despite the leadership change, Infinix's day-to-day operations in India appear to be stable; however, the brand has launched significantly fewer models from January to May 2026 compared to the same timeframe in the previous year, indicating a marked slowdown in its product release cycle. Industry analyst Yogesh Brar noted that Infinix shipped approximately 2.9 million smartphones in India in 2025. However, this number plummeted to just 500,000 units between January and April 2026, highlighting a dramatic decrease in shipments. This trend is not isolated to Infinix, as Transsion Holdings, which also oversees the Tecno and itel brands, has reported a collective 20% drop in shipments across all three brands. The absence of a CEO and the ongoing contraction of its product offerings suggest that Infinix is navigating one of its toughest challenges in the Indian market.
