a16z partner Kofi Ampadu to leave firm after TxO program pause

Kofi Ampadu, a prominent partner at a16z, has announced his departure from the firm following the suspension of the Talent x Opportunity (TxO) program. This news comes via an email obtained by TechCrunch, where Ampadu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the initiative that aimed to support underrepresented entrepreneurs. In his email, titled "Closing My a16z Chapter," Ampadu reflected on his rewarding journey over the past four years. He took the reins of TxO in 2020, succeeding Nait Jones, and has since dedicated himself to identifying out-of-network entrepreneurs and helping them refine their business ideas, secure funding, and grow as leaders. The TxO program was designed to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity in the venture ecosystem, focusing on founders who often face systemic barriers. Despite some positive feedback from participants, the program faced criticism due to its donor-advised fund structure. Additionally, it introduced a grant initiative in 2024 aimed at providing $50,000 to nonprofits that support diverse founders. With the last cohort concluding in March 2025 and the program's indefinite suspension, Ampadu's exit may mark a significant shift for TxO. As he embarks on new ventures, he leaves behind a legacy of pride in the work accomplished and appreciation for those who contributed to the initiative. Ampadu's closing words in his farewell email reflect his commitment to continue advocating for diversity and inclusion in the entrepreneurial space, stating, "There is more work to do, and I am excited to keep building."
