In a significant corporate shift, Michael Guo, the CEO of Realme India, has resigned as the brand's parent company, Oppo, gears up for a comprehensive restructuring that aims to unify Realme and OnePlus under its corporate fold. This development follows the recent exit of Robin Liu, the CEO of OnePlus India, as the organizations adapt to ongoing changes following their merger. According to a report by MoneyControl, Guo's departure is attributed to health-related issues, a decision acknowledged and respected by Realme. A spokesperson for the company stated, "We confirm that Michael Guo has stepped down from his role as the Representative Head overseeing business of India at Realme due to certain health reasons. We extend our sincere appreciation for his valuable contributions to the business during his tenure." Stepping into Guo's shoes will be Chase Xu, Realme's Global Vice President, who is set to lead the operations in India. The company emphasized that India remains a pivotal market for them, highlighting their commitment to long-term growth despite recent organizational changes. Michael Guo has been a key player within the Oppo Group since its inception, joining Realme in India as Sales and GTM Director back in 2018. His leadership saw Realme achieve notable milestones, including surpassing one million units sold during Flipkart's Big Billion Days sale and earning recognition as the leading smartphone brand on Flipkart in 2019. In addition to his role in India, Guo also held significant leadership positions in Europe and was instrumental in expanding Realme's footprint in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. His return as India CEO followed Madhav Sheth's departure earlier this year, as Realme transitioned to being a sub-brand under Oppo. As Oppo continues its strategy to integrate Realme into its overarching business framework, the implications for Realme's distribution network and brand identity are yet to be fully realized. The ongoing changes indicate a move towards positioning Realme not just as a standalone brand, but potentially as an integral product series within Oppo's diverse portfolio.
