Fermi, an innovative player in AI-driven nuclear energy, is facing a significant leadership change as co-founder and CEO Toby Neugebauer, along with CFO Miles Everson, have unexpectedly left the company. This sudden departure has triggered a 22% drop in the firm’s stock value on Monday, raising concerns among investors. Although Neugebauer has stepped down from the chairman position, he will remain a member of the board. In a swift move, Lead Independent Board Director Marius Haas has assumed the chairman's responsibilities. Everson's exit has led to his election as a board director, a change made possible through the director designation rights held by the Melissa A. Neugebauer 2020 Trust. Fermi is working on a cutting-edge AI campus in Amarillo, Texas, intended to utilize nuclear reactors to power data centers. This initiative, known as Project Matador, has faced challenges recently, including reported tensions with a key customer, as noted by Bloomberg. The company has framed these leadership changes and its ongoing plans, including a new corporate headquarters in Dallas, as part of an initiative dubbed Fermi 2.0, aiming to reassure investors of its commitment to advancing the project.
