In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has announced the transfer of Abhishek Singh, the CEO of the IndiaAI Mission. A seasoned IAS officer from the 1995 batch of the Nagaland cadre, Singh will now assume the role of Director General at the National Testing Agency (NTA) under the Ministry of Education, effective March 31, 2026. This transfer comes on the heels of the IndiaAI Impact Summit, a major event that gathered technology leaders from around the globe, yet not without its share of criticism regarding logistical and security shortcomings. Singh's move to the NTA coincides with a period of heightened scrutiny regarding the administration of national-level computer-based examinations, making his new position particularly challenging. Currently, the ACC has yet to announce Singh's successor at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), where he also held the position of Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Furthermore, this transfer is part of a broader wave of senior government appointments, which includes notable roles for other IAS officers such as Chanchal Kumar, who has been appointed as the new Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, and Sanjay Lohiya, who will serve as Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Special Secretary for the Department of Financial Services in the Ministry of Finance. As the NTA prepares to welcome its new leader, the tech sector is keenly observing who will step into the important role at MeitY, crucial for steering India’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.
