Monarch Tractor is facing legal action, accused of overstating the autonomous functionality of its tractors. The lawsuit, initiated by Burks Tractor, an Idaho dealership, claims that the California-based company failed to deliver on its promises regarding the self-operating capabilities of its equipment. According to the lawsuit, Burks Tractor asserts that the 10 tractors it purchased are not only unable to operate autonomously but are also riddled with significant defects. The complaint highlights that in early 2024, Burks Tractor intended to become one of Monarch's first dealers, having been assured that the tractors would function fully autonomously without restrictions based on location or time. Supporting its claims, Burks Tractor alleges that Monarch provided demonstration videos showcasing the tractors performing various autonomous tasks. The dealership financed the purchase, totaling $773,088, but has since reported ongoing issues with the equipment. Burks Tractor received the first five tractors in April 2024, followed by the remaining five in June 2025. Almost immediately, the dealership discovered that the tractors did not meet the promised operational standards. Despite efforts from Monarch's sales team to rectify the issues, the dealership claims that both verbal and written admissions were made indicating the limitations of the tractors' autonomous capabilities, particularly noting that they could not operate indoors. Frustrations mounted as Burks Tractor reported a lack of support from Monarch in resolving the issues, despite numerous requests for repairs or replacements. The lawsuit asserts that the tractors continue to malfunction and fail to operate autonomously as promised. Burks Tractor has formally requested that Monarch take back the defective units, a demand that the company has reportedly declined to fulfill.
