Lava unveils Rs 16,999 Blaze Duo 3, bringing dual screens to India’s budget segment

Lava International is making a significant move into the budget smartphone market with the introduction of the Blaze Duo 3, which aims to distinguish itself through its unique dual-screen design. Priced at Rs 16,999, this device is being touted as India’s first dual-display smartphone in this price range, featuring a full-sized AMOLED front display and a compact secondary screen on the back, a feature typically found in much pricier models. The standout characteristic of the Blaze Duo 3 is its 1.6-inch AMOLED rear display, conveniently located next to the camera module. This secondary screen enables users to check notifications, manage music, view animations, and even preview selfies without the need to unlock the phone or activate the main display. The device also boasts a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED front panel, complete with a punch-hole camera and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, making it competitive with other mid-range smartphones geared towards gaming and video consumption. In terms of design, the Blaze Duo 3 is sleek at just 7.55mm thick and comes in two stylish finishes: Moonlight Black and Imperial Gold, appealing to younger consumers seeking a unique look. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 7060 chipset, reaching speeds of up to 2.6GHz. It is equipped with 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM, which can be expanded to 12GB with virtual memory, and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring smooth multitasking and casual gaming experiences. The device is backed by a robust 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging, a standard feature in this segment, promising a full day of usage for most users. For photography enthusiasts, Lava has integrated a 50-megapixel AI rear camera using Sony’s IMX752 sensor, along with an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. The rear display serves as a useful tool for framing selfies with the main camera, enhancing the photography experience. Operating on Android 15, the Blaze Duo 3 offers a streamlined software experience devoid of bloatware and intrusive notifications. Lava has committed to providing one major Android upgrade to Android 16 and two years of security updates. “Blaze Duo 3 will feature a dual-screen display at an accessible price point, catering to young Lava patrons,” stated Sumit Singh, Head of Product at Lava International. “The product has been conceptualized with a strong focus on design, convenience, and purpose.” Emphasizing its “Made in India” initiative, Lava is also introducing its Free Service@Home program, where technicians provide on-site repairs and support for customers. However, this strategy comes with challenges, as India’s sub-Rs 20,000 smartphone market is heavily populated by Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Realme, iQOO, and Motorola, all of which fiercely compete on specs and pricing. Lava’s innovative dual-screen approach seeks to break through this competitive landscape with a fresh offering. The Blaze Duo 3 is set to hit the shelves in India starting January 19, 2026.
