Dean Gialamas, the LAPD's chief information officer, stated, "This contract is not being renewed due to serious concerns surrounding civil liberties and civil rights issues, particularly regarding privacy and the data collected from these cameras." The decision to let the three-year agreement expire, which concludes on Saturday, reflects the department's commitment to addressing these pressing issues before considering future collaborations. A spokesperson for the LAPD did not provide further comments, leaving uncertainty about whether Flock's cameras will remain operational without an active contract. Reports indicate that the LAPD is looking for new contractual language that would better address privacy and data storage concerns. As one of Flock's largest government clients, the LAPD's decision is significant, especially as other major cities, including Mountain View, California, and South Portland, Maine, have also severed ties with the company, citing similar privacy concerns.
