Krutrim, a pioneering force in India's AI landscape, has launched Kruti, an advanced AI assistant set to revolutionize user interaction beyond traditional chatbots. This innovative tool is designed to transform passive communication into active task management, enabling users to book rides, order meals, and even process payments seamlessly. The introduction of Kruti marks a significant evolution from Krutrim’s earlier public beta chatbot, which debuted in 2023. With this new assistant, the company emphasizes enhanced reasoning abilities and a personalized user experience. While India boasts a burgeoning array of conversational AI technologies, Kruti aims to stand out by offering genuine agentic functionalities. However, the real challenge lies in demonstrating viable use cases, particularly given the lukewarm reception of other Indian LLM-based platforms. Krutrim is currently engaging with various partners to activate Kruti’s potential, yet concerns about monetization and scalability loom large in the background. In a conversation with Business Today during the launch event, Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder and CEO of Ola Consumer, and founder of Ola Electric and Krutrim, emphasized the necessity of a strong AI ecosystem in India. "We need more AI companies—10, 20, the more, the merrier," Aggarwal stated. He also highlighted that each company must tackle its own traction challenges, underscoring the competitive nature of the industry. Aggarwal revealed that Krutrim has already committed over ₹2,000 crore to the project, with intentions to invest up to ₹10,000 crore by next year. Previously, the company secured $50 million in a funding round led by Matrix Partners India, a notable supporter of Aggarwal’s other ventures, including Ola Cabs and Ola Electric. When questioned about Krutrim’s alignment with the government’s IndiaAI Mission, Aggarwal confirmed that they have submitted an application in the current batch. As the race for AI innovation intensifies in India, the spotlight is now on Kruti to fulfill its ambitious promises and determine if users are prepared to trust an AI assistant with significant responsibilities.
