Kodiak taps Bosch to scale its self-driving truck tech

Kodiak AI, a leader in self-driving truck technology, has announced a significant partnership with Bosch, a renowned global automotive supplier. This collaboration aims to create a robust hardware and software system that will empower conventional big rigs with autonomous driving capabilities. The partnership was unveiled during the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas, potentially accelerating the deployment of Kodiak's self-driving technology across a broader range of trucks. Kodiak has been at the forefront of developing autonomous trucks designed for various applications, including highway transport, industrial use, and defense. The company has already established a sophisticated self-driving system that features redundant systems for braking, steering, sensors, and computing. In January 2025, Kodiak's autonomous trucks commenced driverless deliveries for Atlas Energy Solutions in the resource-rich Permian Basin, spanning West Texas and eastern New Mexico. To date, Kodiak has successfully delivered eight autonomous trucks to Atlas as part of an agreement for an initial order of 100 vehicles. The partnership with Bosch is set to enhance Kodiak’s capabilities further. Together, they will develop redundant platforms that can convert semi-trucks from any manufacturer into autonomous vehicles. Bosch will provide an array of hardware components, including sensors and steering technologies, which can be integrated during the vehicle production process or added later by third-party upfitters. Don Burnette, Kodiak's founder and CEO, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, "Partnering with Bosch will enable us to enhance our autonomous driving hardware with the necessary modularity and serviceability for commercial success in both factory-line and upfit integrations." Paul Thomas, president of Bosch in North America, views this collaboration as a crucial step towards advancing the autonomous trucking sector. He commented, "By supplying production-grade hardware, we are facilitating the next generation of autonomous trucking in partnership with Kodiak. This cooperation offers us a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding of real-world requirements for autonomous vehicles and enhance our contributions to the broader autonomous mobility ecosystem." While both Kodiak and Bosch are eager to advance their technologies and market presence, a timeline for the rollout of these new systems has yet to be disclosed, leaving questions about when we might see these innovations in action.
