A new Kentucky AI data center will power Anthropic as part of a 20-year deal

In a significant development for the tech landscape, Kentucky is poised to unveil a large-scale artificial intelligence data center dedicated to powering Anthropic's advanced AI models. This venture comes as part of a monumental 20-year agreement projected to yield approximately $20 billion in revenue. TeraWulf, initially known for its Bitcoin mining operations, has transitioned into the role of AI data center developer. On Monday, the company disclosed that Anthropic has secured a long-term lease for a specialized AI infrastructure campus situated on a previously industrial site in the quaint city of Hawesville, a location acquired by TeraWulf earlier this year. According to TeraWulf, the lease agreement is anticipated to generate around $19 billion in contracted revenue throughout its duration. TeraWulf's CEO, Paul Prager, expressed enthusiasm in a statement, highlighting that the deal not only affirms their strategic direction but also establishes a stable revenue stream with one of the foremost AI enterprises globally. Prager emphasized that the partnership with the creators of Claude lays the groundwork for future growth, demonstrating TeraWulf's capacity to secure power, develop essential infrastructure, and forge lasting customer relationships. The Hawesville data center will be constructed in phases, with the initial stage aimed at supporting AI computing tasks. It is expected to provide adequate power for operations by the latter half of 2027, reaching its full capacity of 401 megawatts by early 2028, according to TeraWulf's projections.
