Karamo Brown, renowned for his inspiring guidance on Netflix’s "Queer Eye," has launched an innovative wellness application called Kē, marking his foray into the realms of health and artificial intelligence. After dedicating a year and a half to his personal growth journey—including fitness, nutrition, meditation, and relationship building—Brown aims to empower others to embark on similar paths. Kē is packed with features tailored to support users on their wellness quests. The app offers customized fitness plans that adapt to the equipment users have access to and their personal schedules. Additionally, it provides nutrition advice by suggesting meal plans based on the ingredients users already possess at home. An AI chatbot within the app allows users to modify their fitness and meal plans easily, ensuring a personalized experience. Each workout is complemented by instructional videos to help users maintain proper form. On the mental health front, Kē includes a meditation section with videos addressing various emotional states, assisting users in managing stress and anxiety. The app also fosters community interaction, enabling users to join supportive groups that focus on shared experiences such as sobriety or wellness-focused discussions. What truly distinguishes Kē is its unique "AI Karamo" feature, which allows users to engage in conversations with a digital representation of Brown. Users can pose questions and receive guidance in real-time, all delivered in his familiar voice. This feature is powered by the AI startup Delphi, utilizing a wealth of material from Brown, including interviews and podcast segments, to ensure an authentic representation. Brown shared with TechCrunch that even his closest friends often converse with the AI clone when they can't reach him. The launch of Kē comes amid a growing trend of celebrities embracing AI technology, with stars like Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine also licensing their voices for digital avatars. Despite the excitement surrounding AI, many celebrities have voiced their concerns about the potential misuse of their likenesses in creating digital clones. There is apprehension about fans forming emotional attachments to these chatbots, but Brown is clear that Kē is not intended to replace genuine human connections. Instead, he envisions it as a tool for personal growth that encourages users to seek real-life support when necessary. Brown emphasized, "If someone is struggling with a sensitive issue, the app can direct them toward appropriate resources and remind them to reach out to real people in their lives. This is meant to help individuals reflect, learn, and grow, not to substitute for human connection." When questioned about the frequency of interactions with his digital clone, Brown responded, "Users can engage with it as much as they need, but the aim is not to create dependency. It’s designed to facilitate personal progress." He also reassured users about safety measures in place, with a human team overseeing the app's interactions. However, users should be cautious as conversations with the AI involve sharing data with Delphi, making it wise to avoid revealing sensitive information. Reflecting on his initial skepticism towards AI, Brown stated, "When AI first emerged in discussions a few years back, I was doubtful. However, the technology has advanced significantly. My perspective shifted upon witnessing how thoughtfully companies like Delphi have approached AI." Looking ahead, Delphi plans to enhance Kē by introducing features that allow the AI to perform tasks on behalf of users. For instance, if AI Karamo offers workout advice, it may soon have the capability to adjust the user’s plan automatically.
