Kalshi, a leading player in the prediction market sector, announced a significant milestone on Thursday with the completion of a $1 billion Series F funding round. This latest investment has propelled the company's valuation to an impressive $22 billion, effectively doubling its worth from just five months ago when it raised a similar amount in its Series E round, which valued the company at $11 billion. The funding round was spearheaded by Coatue, with additional contributions from well-known firms such as Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, and Paradigm. According to reports from Bloomberg, Kalshi's annualized revenue has now surpassed $1.5 billion, underscoring its rapid growth in the industry. Kalshi, along with its competitor Polymarket, has played a pivotal role in popularizing prediction markets, allowing users to wager on a diverse range of events—from celebrity fashion choices at the Met Gala to outcomes of sports matches. In a recent blog post, Kalshi highlighted a staggering 800% increase in institutional trading on its platform over the past six months, asserting that it currently accounts for 90% of all prediction market activity in the United States. Meanwhile, Polymarket is working to lift restrictions on its U.S. operations that were imposed in 2022, further intensifying competition in this burgeoning market.
