Kalshi's 'unusual' management style has more than 100 employees report to both founders, CEO says

At Kalshi, an emerging leader in the prediction market sector in the U.S., a strikingly unconventional management style has emerged. According to CEO Tarek Mansour, over 150 employees report directly to both him and co-founder Luana Lopes Lara, creating a flat organizational structure that defies traditional hierarchies. In a recent episode of Sequoia Capital's podcast "Long Strange Trip," Mansour described their approach as intentionally "unusual." He acknowledged that while certain functions operate independently, the majority of the workforce reports directly to the two founders. This structure, while chaotic, is designed to foster rapid adaptability within the company. Mansour elaborated, stating, "What you get out of chaos is continuous, constant adaptability." Founded in 2018 after their meeting at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mansour and Lara have embraced a management style that prioritizes flexibility. Mansour explained that their goal is to maintain an organization that can swiftly reorient itself to tackle the most significant challenges and seize opportunities as they arise. "You want to be able to do that with no friction — that's inherently chaotic," he remarked. During the podcast, Mansour candidly shared that he does not adhere to any conventional leadership frameworks, often improvising his methods. He humorously referred to himself and Lara as being "entrepreneurially illiterate," admitting that they haven't engaged deeply with leadership literature or resources. Mansour focuses on overarching strategic vision while Lara manages the company’s daily operations. He noted their dynamic often leads them to take opposing viewpoints, which he believes adds value to their decision-making process.
