Elon Musk loses trial accusing Sam Altman, OpenAI of stealing a charity

In a significant legal development, a jury has ruled against Elon Musk in his lawsuit claiming that OpenAI misappropriated funds from a charity he supported. The nine-member jury reached a unanimous decision on Monday, concluding that Musk's case was filed too late. Musk had accused OpenAI of misleading him after he donated $38 million to help establish the organization as a nonprofit. He claimed that the creation of a for-profit division by OpenAI ultimately undermined the charity's mission, benefiting executives such as Sam Altman and Greg Brockman at the expense of its original goals. However, the jury determined that Musk was informed about OpenAI's restructuring as early as 2021, which meant he exceeded the three-year statute of limitations for filing such claims. Consequently, they found Altman and Brockman not responsible for any alleged wrongdoing. Additionally, the jury cleared Microsoft of any liability, dismissing Musk's allegations that the tech giant played a role in OpenAI's alleged profit-driven tactics.
