Joby Aviation has significantly increased the size and output capabilities of its pilot manufacturing facility located in Marina, California, as it pushes towards the launch of its electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles (eVTOLs) by early next year. The facility now spans 435,500 square feet, with the ability to manufacture 24 aircraft annually, which translates to nearly one aircraft produced every two weeks once fully operational. This upgraded facility will play a crucial role in the support of federal certification processes, ground and flight testing, pilot training, and aircraft maintenance. Inquiries have been made regarding the timeline for Joby to reach full production capacity, as well as updates on its first large-scale facility in Dayton, Ohio, which is expected to produce up to 500 aircraft per year once completed. In a strategic move, Joby has partnered with engineers from its investor Toyota to assist in the development of both production sites. Earlier this year, Toyota completed the first $250 million installment of a planned $500 million investment in Joby. The expansion of Joby’s pilot facility coincides with the addition of a sixth aircraft to its fleet, which recently received its airworthiness certification within just a week of its completion. Joby went public in 2021 following a merger with a SPAC and aims to initiate its commercial operations in Dubai in early 2026, followed by launches in a U.S. city soon after.
