Jio will reduce the cost of AI as it did the cost of data: Mukesh Ambani at AI Summit 2026

At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, unveiled a bold initiative aimed at making artificial intelligence (AI) significantly more affordable. He declared that Reliance Jio is set to transform the AI landscape in India, akin to its revolution of data accessibility. Ambani announced that the company plans to invest an astounding Rs 10 lakh crore over the next seven years to enhance AI capabilities across the nation. 'On behalf of Jio Intelligence and the Reliance Group, I am excited to share three major announcements today,' Ambani said. He emphasized that Jio will not only connect India to the internet era but also usher the country into the intelligence era, ensuring that every citizen, sector, and public service has access to AI. He stressed that India cannot afford to depend on external intelligence resources, asserting, 'We will reduce the cost of intelligence as dramatically as we did the cost of data.' Ambani's second announcement focused on the significant financial commitment of Rs 10 lakh crore, which will kick off this year. Additionally, he revealed plans for establishing India's sovereign compute infrastructure through three strategic initiatives. The first involves constructing multi-gigawatt AI-ready data centers, with substantial progress already made in Jamnagar. A notable 120 megawatts are expected to be operational in the latter half of 2026, paving the way for large-scale AI training and inference. The second initiative highlights Jio's commitment to sustainable energy, boasting an in-house capacity of up to 10 gigawatts of green power, primarily sourced from solar energy in Kutch and Andhra Pradesh. The third initiative is the development of a nationwide edge computing network, which will ensure that AI services are delivered with low latency and high responsiveness throughout the country. Ambani expressed his confidence that India is poised to emerge as one of the leading AI superpowers of the 21st century, leveraging its unique advantages in demographics, democracy, development, and digital infrastructure to dominate the global AI landscape.
