JioHotstar has announced an update to its subscription offerings, introducing an entry-level monthly plan priced at Rs 79. This new option, however, comes with a trade-off, as the platform has raised the costs for both quarterly and annual plans for its subscribers. These changes are set to take effect on January 28, 2026. The streaming service states that the updated plans are designed to meet the changing preferences of viewers. The new monthly tier aims to enhance accessibility for users who wish to enjoy content not only on their smartphones but also on larger displays such as smart TVs. According to a press release from the company, the consumption of JioHotstar content on big screens has surged dramatically over the past 11 months since its launch, and this pricing strategy is intended to further enrich the user experience. For mobile users, the monthly subscription will be available at Rs 79. Those opting for quarterly and annual payments will see their fees rise to Rs 149 and Rs 499, respectively. It's important to note that the monthly plan will include advertisements, and users interested in Hollywood content will need to pay an extra Rs 49 per month. The Super plan, which allows streaming on two devices simultaneously, starts at Rs 149 per month. However, the quarterly and annual subscription fees have increased to Rs 349 and Rs 1,099, reflecting a 22% rise from the previous rates of Rs 299 and Rs 899. Like the monthly plan, the Super plan will also feature ads but will not require additional payments for Hollywood content. Finally, the premium plan, which supports up to four devices, begins at Rs 299 per month, with quarterly and annual rates adjusted to Rs 699 and Rs 2,199, respectively, marking an increase of about 47% when rounded. JioHotstar has reassured its existing subscribers that they will continue to enjoy their current pricing, with automatic renewals set to occur upon the expiration of their subscription periods.
