Palantir CIO Jim Siders leaves to become head of Thrive Capital's new IT services business

In a significant move within the tech investment landscape, Thrive Capital has appointed Jim Siders, formerly of Palantir, as the CEO of its newly established IT services arm, Shield Technology Partners. This announcement came on Monday, marking a new chapter for Siders, who has spent over 12 years at Palantir, culminating in his role as Chief Information Officer where he directed global IT operations, business applications, and infrastructure. Siders began his journey at Palantir as an IT helpdesk engineer, and under his leadership, the company has seen remarkable growth, particularly amid the recent surge in artificial intelligence, with its stock increasing nearly thirtyfold since late 2022. Thrive Capital, founded by Josh Kushner, has also been active in launching new initiatives; earlier this year, it unveiled Thrive Holdings, aimed at acquiring and managing companies poised for technological advancement. Launched in June with an initial funding of over $100 million, Shield Technology Partners collaborates with IT services firms, providing them access to advanced AI tools and engineering expertise to foster growth. In an interview with CNBC, Siders expressed optimism about the potential value creation within these partnerships, stating, "If we're doing this right, we're going to see a lot of value created all the way up the chain, from end customer all the way through to us here at Shield." Currently, Shield is working with seven companies and is projected to generate over $100 million in revenue this year, primarily focusing on small to mid-sized businesses. Furthermore, Thrive Holdings operates in the accounting sector, indicating its diverse business interests. Earlier this month, OpenAI announced its investment in Thrive Holdings, planning to integrate its engineering, research, and product teams into the businesses under Thrive's umbrella. Anuj Mehndiratta of Thrive Holdings noted that OpenAI's stake would enhance their collaborative efforts to achieve optimal outcomes for their customers. To align interests, Shield's model includes granting equity to the IT service firms it supports, fostering a collaborative environment. As Siders embarks on his new role, he aims to deepen relationships with existing partners and explore new acquisition opportunities, emphasizing the substantial potential in the industry. "There's a whole industry out there, people who've spent their careers trying to deliver this value for everybody's benefit," he remarked. "This is a unique and special thing to attack that."
