Jeff Bezos, known as one of the wealthiest and most influential figures in the tech industry, is poised to step back into the CEO spotlight after a two-year hiatus. According to a report from The New York Times, Bezos will take on the role of co-CEO for a new artificial intelligence venture. The company, intriguingly named Project Prometheus, aims to leverage AI for significant advancements across various sectors, including research, engineering, and manufacturing. This initiative is particularly focused on what is referred to as the 'physical economy,' distinguishing itself from the typical software-centric applications of AI that most people are familiar with. Joining Bezos as co-CEO is Dr. Vik Bajaj, a seasoned chemist and physicist. Bajaj brings a wealth of experience from his previous leadership role at Google X, where he oversaw innovative life sciences projects. His impressive background also includes stints at Verily, another Alphabet-supported entity centered on life sciences, and Foresite Labs, an incubator dedicated to nurturing emerging AI companies. Together, they are set to pioneer new frontiers in AI technology.
