Jaguar Land Rover, the renowned luxury automobile manufacturer, announced on Tuesday that it will continue its production suspension until at least September 24 due to a significant cyberattack that occurred earlier this month. The company has communicated this delay to its employees, suppliers, and partners, marking the extension into a third week of halted operations. In its latest statement, Jaguar Land Rover acknowledged the complexities involved in the controlled resumption of its global operations, emphasizing that this process will require substantial time to complete. Laura Savvas, a company spokesperson and representative of Tata Motors, Jaguar Land Rover’s parent company, refrained from providing additional comments when contacted by TechCrunch. The BBC reports that the ongoing disruption is projected to cost the company approximately £50 million (around $68 million) each week, as the firm is unable to maintain its usual output of 1,000 vehicles per week. However, estimates regarding the financial impact vary, with the British daily The Telegraph suggesting potential losses could reach £72 million (nearly $100 million). Additionally, suppliers to Jaguar Land Rover are expressing growing concern over their ability to withstand such an extensive production halt, with fears that some may face bankruptcy as a result.
