Jack Dorsey’s latest app tracks sun exposure

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, is making headlines once again with his latest app creation. Following the launch of a Bluetooth messaging platform called Bitchat, Dorsey has introduced another intriguing application named Sun Day, designed to help users monitor their UV exposure and Vitamin D levels. Currently available on iOS through TestFlight, Sun Day has also been made open-source, with its code accessible on GitHub for anyone interested in exploring or modifying it. Dorsey embraces a trend among developers, focusing on creating practical tools, but opts for the open-source platform Goose instead of more commonly used options. Sun Day features a user-friendly interface that provides the UV Index specific to the user's location, along with important details such as cloud cover and the timings for sunrise and sunset. Users can select their skin type from a set of six options, as well as indicate their clothing choices. Based on this information, the app calculates the safe duration for sun exposure to minimize the risk of sunburn. To begin tracking UV exposure, users simply tap the “Track UV Exposure” button. Once the session concludes, the app displays the amount of Vitamin D gained during the exposure, as well as the total for the day. This innovative tool aims to promote healthy sun habits while enabling users to enjoy the outdoors responsibly.
