You probably don’t need a 1,000 Hz gaming monitor

For nearly two years, the gaming community has been captivated by prototypes showcasing monitors with an astounding 1,000 Hz refresh rate. As these prototypes transition into consumer-ready products, the question lingers: how substantial is the demand for displays that can refresh every millisecond? The latest contender in this high-refresh-rate arena is LG’s UltraGear 25G590B, boasting the title of the world’s first Full HD gaming monitor with a native 1,000 Hz refresh rate. Announced this week, LG plans to roll out this monitor in select markets during the latter half of the year. This 24.5-inch monitor promises to meet the Full HD standard, achieving the widely-used 1080p resolution that gamers frequently report in Steam's hardware surveys. Compared to other competitors like Acer’s Predator XB273U F6, Samsung’s Odyssey G6, and Philips’ EVNIA 27M2N5500XD, which must reduce their resolution to 720p to reach 1,000 Hz, LG’s offering stands out. These competitors, while capable of 1440p resolutions, can only achieve a maximum refresh rate of 500 Hz at that level. Furthermore, LG emphasizes that its high-performance monitor can achieve its impressive resolution and refresh rate without complicated modes or restarts, ensuring a seamless gaming experience for users seeking the ultimate in display technology.
