Iran strike damages Amazon cloud facility in Bahrain

A recent attack by Iranian forces has caused damage to Amazon's cloud facility located in Bahrain. This incident came to light shortly after the Iranian Revolutionary Guards issued warnings to several major U.S. tech firms, including Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Meta, indicating they could be targeted in the West Asia region. According to reports from the Financial Times, the strike specifically impacted the headquarters of Batelco, Bahrain's leading telecommunications provider, which oversees Amazon Web Services (AWS) operations in that area. The interior ministry of Bahrain confirmed that a fire occurred at a facility linked to the company following the Iranian attack, although it did not explicitly identify Amazon. This attack is not an isolated incident; last month, Amazon acknowledged that its cloud services faced disruptions due to a similar strike amid escalating tensions in West Asia. The company previously indicated plans to relocate its operations to mitigate risks. At this stage, the extent of the damage at the affected facility remains unclear, and it is uncertain how long service interruptions might last. As we await further information from Amazon regarding the impact on their operations, it is important to note that, as of now, no other major tech entities have reported being affected by the Iranian strike in the region.
