iPhone customers upset by Apple Wallet ad pushing F1 movie

Apple users are voicing their dissatisfaction regarding a promotional notification from the Apple Wallet app, advertising the tech company’s new film, "F1 the Movie." Many iPhone owners took to social media to express their annoyance after receiving a push notification offering a $10 discount on Fandango for purchasing two or more movie tickets. The film, featuring Brad Pitt, delves into the thrilling world of Formula 1 and was filmed during real Grand Prix races. It prominently showcases Apple technology, utilizing custom-made cameras crafted from iPhone components and featuring AirPods Max as part of Brad Pitt's character’s sleep routine. Despite the film's potential appeal, many users feel that they do not want their digital wallet promoting products or services. One frustrated user on Reddit, known as u/captain42d, voiced their concern, stating, "I did not pay over $1000 for an iPhone to get advertised at." Another post has already garnered numerous replies from users seeking ways to disable these Apple Pay promotions. Currently, those not on the beta version of iOS 26 can only choose to mute notifications or hide card benefits during checkout, leaving them unable to opt out of promotional offers. The introduction of an option to turn off "Offers & Promotions" in the upcoming iOS 26 beta suggests that Apple intends to increase marketing efforts through the Wallet app, which many iPhone users find unwelcome. Historically, Apple customers have resisted unsolicited advertisements on their devices. Complaints about unwanted ads, such as those for Apple’s services in iOS Settings, have surfaced repeatedly, and the infamous U2 album that was automatically added to users' iTunes libraries continues to be a sore point for many. In a lighthearted comparison, one Reddit user remarked about the F1 film notifications, saying, "I am getting Bono flashbacks." Apple has been actively promoting the F1 film in collaboration with Warner Bros., even featuring a haptic trailer that provides vibration feedback. The company also showcased a sneak peek of the film during its recent WWDC 2025 keynote, with appearances from Apple CEO Tim Cook and Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, who took on the role of a race car driver. Apple has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the situation.
