Will the iPhone 18 Pro Max be Apple's most expensive iPhone yet? Here’s what to expect

Apple is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated iPhone 18 Pro series in just two months, and speculation about a significant price increase is already making waves. Following a price hike earlier this year for various products including iPads and MacBooks, industry insiders are bracing for a similar trend with the upcoming iPhone models. Reports indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could see a staggering price increase of $300 (around Rs 28,599) compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to Counterpoint Research, the estimated bill of materials (BOM) for the 1TB variant of the new device stands at approximately $900, a sharp rise from the $550 BOM for the 1TB iPhone 17 Pro Max. The surge in manufacturing costs is largely attributed to escalating prices of memory chips, notably NAND flash storage and DRAM, which are critical for app and data management on the device. The report highlights that the cost of NAND storage alone is projected to exceed $250, driven by increasing demand for AI infrastructure and advanced hardware. Additionally, the introduction of Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, built using the company's first 2-nanometer fabrication process, is expected to further contribute to the production costs, adding to the overall expense compared to the previous N3P process utilized for the A19 Pro. Despite these rising costs, there is speculation that Apple may not transfer the entire price increase to consumers. Analysts suggest that the company might adopt a tiered pricing strategy, where entry-level models (like the 256GB or 512GB options) could experience a smaller bump in price compared to higher-capacity versions, which incorporate more expensive memory components. Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches, and prepare for the latest advancements in Apple's flagship smartphone line.
