Apple continues to face scrutiny regarding its iPhone 17 series, as the company has confirmed the absence of a crucial camera feature that older models had. According to a support document released by Apple, the iPhone 17 Pro series no longer supports Night Mode while taking Portrait photos. Users on platforms like Reddit and Apple's support forums have expressed their frustrations for months, noting that Night Mode fails to activate in Portrait mode. This official acknowledgment has raised eyebrows, especially since every iPhone Pro model since 2020 has included this functionality. The decision to remove such a significant capability without prior explanation has left many users puzzled. For those unfamiliar with Night Mode, it enhances low-light photography by prolonging exposure time, enabling the camera to capture additional light in darker settings. This could range from a quick moment to several seconds, allowing the sensor to gather details that might otherwise be lost in shadow. One user highlighted the issue in an Apple support forum, stating, "If I take a picture of a person in Night Mode, it no longer saves the depth data, preventing me from converting it to a portrait later. When in Portrait mode, Night Mode remains inactive regardless of the darkness of the scene." Earlier this year, the iPhone 17 Pro was also in the spotlight due to a stress test by YouTuber JerryRigEverything, which revealed that the sharp edges around the camera island were susceptible to chipping. The YouTuber attributed this flaw to the anodized coating not adhering well to the corners, a problem that did not exist in the titanium frames of the previous generation. Additionally, reports have surfaced about significant scratches around the MagSafe area on dark demo units shortly after the iPhone 17's release. Some users have even claimed their iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max devices have shifted to a pink or rose gold hue. As of now, Apple has not commented on these emerging issues.
