Watch: Leaked iPhone 17 Air photos show it’s super thin – But is it too thin?

The competition in the ultra-slim smartphone arena is heating up, particularly with the recent introduction of Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge, which boasts a thickness of just 5.8mm. Apple is gearing up to release its iPhone 17 Air, rumored to be even thinner, with leaked reports suggesting a thickness range between 5.0mm and 6.0mm. TechRadar highlights specific figures of 5.44mm, 5.5mm, and 5.65mm, indicating that if these specifications hold true, the new iPhone could surpass Samsung’s latest offering in slimness. Despite the seemingly minor thickness difference of 0.15mm to 0.35mm, images shared by tipster @theonecid show a dummy model of the iPhone 17 Air next to the Galaxy S25 Edge, revealing a noticeable decrease in thickness. However, this sleek design may come with its own set of challenges; the iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a camera lens that protrudes slightly more than that of the S25 Edge, which could diminish some of its aesthetic advantage. Reports suggest that users may need to make sacrifices for this thinner profile. The iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to feature a single rear camera lens, unlike the dual lenses present on both the Galaxy S25 Edge and the standard iPhone 17. This reduction in camera capability might lead to a trade-off in versatility and performance. Moreover, the device is likely to house a smaller battery, raising concerns about battery life in exchange for a sleeker design. On a more colorful note, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch in four different colors, with Sky Blue emerging as a standout option. A recent video from Majin Bu on X showcases a dummy model of the iPhone 17 Air in Sky Blue from various angles, illustrating the color’s adaptability, which can appear nearly white in certain lighting while revealing a vibrant blue hue in others. The video also includes a comparison with the iPhone 16 Pro in Desert Titanium, providing an insightful glimpse into the iPhone 17 Air’s slimmer silhouette.
