Apple’s iOS 26 update boosts charging speeds for iPhone 16 series

Apple's recent developments in the iOS 26 interface, unveiled at the WWDC event in June, have generated significant anticipation among tech enthusiasts. A new report suggests that users of the iPhone 16 series may soon benefit from fully unlocked charging speeds. According to MacRumors, the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be capable of charging at speeds of up to 25W with any Qi 2.2 charger. Previously, while these models supported 25W charging speeds with Apple's MagSafe chargers, third-party Qi chargers were limited to just 15W. The latest beta update for iOS 26 reportedly introduced support for the Qi 2.2 standard, although it remains uncertain if the iPhone 16 models have attained Qi 2.2 certification. However, this certification is expected to be finalized by the time the stable version of iOS 26 is released next month. According to Apple, charging at 25W allows an iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro to reach 50% battery life in approximately 30 minutes. While Apple has not specified an exact timeline for the rollout of iOS 26, it typically coincides with the launch of new iPhones during the September event. The company is anticipated to announce the launch date for these new devices soon, with the iOS 26 update likely following shortly after the iPhone 17 series debut. In addition to the charging enhancements, iOS 26 will introduce a fresh Liquid Glass UI, providing a sleek transparent appearance across the device's Lock Screen, Home Screen, Control Center, and apps. Other notable features include real-time call translation, expanded Visual Intelligence, AI-driven battery management, and a revamped Phone app. Stay tuned for the upcoming details on the iPhone 17's pricing, features, and launch dates for the Pro, Pro Max, and Air models.
