In a groundbreaking event held at its Los Angeles facility, emerging aerospace company Inversion introduced its innovative 'on-demand' delivery spacecraft, the Arc. This new vehicle is designed to enhance the United States military's logistics capabilities, allowing for the swift delivery of up to 500 pounds (225 kg) of supplies to nearly any location on the planet within an hour. Justin Fiaschetti, co-founder and CEO of Inversion, outlined the mission of the Arc during an interview prior to the launch. "Our goal is to position Arcs in orbit for extended periods, potentially up to five years," he stated. These craft will be capable of responding autonomously, landing precisely where and when needed, thus facilitating rapid cargo transport. Founded in early 2021 by Fiaschetti and Austin Briggs, both former Boston University students, Inversion's journey began with a vision to redefine the potential of space logistics. Fiaschetti, who previously interned at SpaceX and Relativity Space focusing on propulsion, expressed a pivotal realization: "While space has been viewed as an exciting destination, its true economic value lies in global accessibility. We saw an opportunity to transport physical cargo, not just data, which drove us to create Inversion." Just three years into its inception, the small team of 25 at Inversion successfully developed a prototype spacecraft named 'Ray.' This vessel, launched with SpaceX's Transporter-12 mission in January, served as a testbed for the company’s advanced technology. Ray was designed to operate in space using Inversion's proprietary subsystems and execute a deorbit maneuver to land off the California coast, showcasing the potential for future operations of the Arc. As this ambitious project unfolds, the implications for military logistics and global supply chains could be transformative, emphasizing Inversion's commitment to pioneering new frontiers in aerospace delivery solutions.
