Intuit to pay OpenAI over $100 million, will integrate TurboTax with ChatGPT

Intuit, the renowned tax software company, has announced a significant partnership with OpenAI, committing over $100 million in a multiyear agreement to enhance its financial products using cutting-edge artificial intelligence. Following the announcement, Intuit's stock experienced a 3% surge. This collaboration will leverage OpenAI's sophisticated large language models within Intuit's internal AI platform, GenOS. The integration aims to elevate the capabilities of various Intuit services, including TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp, by incorporating advanced AI-driven functionalities. A notable feature of this partnership allows TurboTax users to connect their Intuit accounts to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This will enable customers to receive secure financial guidance and assistance related to their tax filings and financial profiles, all without necessitating direct access to sensitive documents. Users will interact with ChatGPT, which will help streamline processes such as estimating tax refunds or generating insights based on real-time business activity in QuickBooks. For OpenAI, this collaboration signifies a vital alliance within the finance sector, opening up a new revenue stream and reinforcing its vision of transforming ChatGPT into a versatile platform applicable across various industries. The company is also keen on demonstrating its growth potential, particularly in light of its impressive $500 billion valuation and substantial spending commitments. OpenAI has previously engaged in similar partnerships with major players like PayPal, Shopify, and Walmart, integrating payment and transaction functionalities into ChatGPT. Importantly, user privacy remains a top priority, with all personal data securely contained within Intuit’s ecosystem, even when accessed through the AI chatbot.
