Intuit to pay OpenAI over $100 million a year, will integrate TurboTax with ChatGPT

Intuit, the renowned tax software provider, has made a significant commitment by agreeing to invest more than $100 million annually in OpenAI. This partnership aims to enhance Intuit’s financial products through the integration of OpenAI's advanced language models. By incorporating this technology into its internal AI system, GenOS, Intuit is set to elevate the functionality of its popular services, including TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp. The collaboration will also see the incorporation of OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot into Intuit’s offerings. TurboTax users will have the ability to connect their accounts to ChatGPT, enabling them to perform tax and financial actions securely. This integration allows ChatGPT to assist users in navigating tasks related to their tax filings and financial profiles, all while ensuring that sensitive documents remain inaccessible. The innovative experience will be facilitated within the ChatGPT platform. Users can grant Intuit permission to retrieve the necessary data, enabling tailored results such as estimating tax refunds, identifying suitable credit cards, or generating real-time business insights through QuickBooks. For OpenAI, this partnership not only represents a substantial financial collaboration but also reinforces its strategy to establish ChatGPT as a versatile platform applicable across various sectors. This deal adds a prominent player in the finance industry to OpenAI's roster of partnerships, which already includes significant names like PayPal, Shopify, and Walmart. Each of these collaborations focuses on integrating functionalities related to payments, shopping, and transactions into ChatGPT. Given the nature of financial data, privacy remains a critical concern; however, users' information will stay securely within Intuit's ecosystem, even when accessed via ChatGPT.
