Google is set to unveil its new budget-friendly smartphone, the Pixel 10a, which will be available starting March 5. Pre-orders for the device have already opened, while the previous model, the Pixel 9a, will remain available for some time. At first glance, the Pixel 10a may look remarkably similar to its predecessor. The design continues the trend established by last year's Pixel 9a, which featured a significant redesign. This year's model retains the flat camera bump, now completely flush with the back, marking the most noticeable external change. In terms of display, the Pixel 10a promises a slight enhancement. Although the resolution and refresh rate remain the same, the peak brightness has increased from 2,700 nits to an impressive 3,000 nits, matching the base Pixel 10 model. Additionally, the phone has upgraded its cover glass from Gorilla Glass 3 to Gorilla Glass 7i, boasting improved durability against scratches and drops. Google has also prioritized sustainability in the Pixel 10a's construction, with the aluminum frame made entirely from recycled materials and 81% of the plastic back similarly sourced. Furthermore, approximately 36% of the device's internal components, including gold, tungsten, cobalt, and copper, are recycled. While the phone retains a physical SIM slot—a feature removed from the Pixel 10 series—the USB-C 3.2 port offers faster charging capabilities, boosting from 23W to 30W. Wireless charging has also seen an upgrade, increasing from 7.5W to 10W, although the absence of Qi2 magnets is noted. Internally, the Pixel 10a doesn't break new ground, as it continues to use the same Tensor G4 chip found in the 9a, foregoing the more advanced G5. Google has justified this decision by emphasizing a balance between affordability and performance, a key consideration for budget-conscious consumers.
