Meet Dot, the autonomous delivery robot launched by DoorDash

DoorDash Inc., the leading food delivery service in the United States, has officially launched Dot, its groundbreaking autonomous delivery robot. This innovative vehicle is capable of carrying up to 14 kilograms and can navigate at speeds of 32 kilometers per hour. The reveal took place on September 29, where co-founder Stanley Tang showcased Dot, a project that has been in development for several years. Tang highlighted the advanced technology behind Dot, stating, "Over the past few years, DoorDash Labs has been focused on creating one of the most sophisticated autonomy systems tailored for the real-world challenges of local delivery." His announcement was accompanied by a video that quickly garnered significant attention and sparked numerous reactions across social media platforms. According to Tang, Dot is a pioneering autonomous delivery robot, designed to operate safely on bike lanes, roads, and sidewalks. He emphasized its compact size, noting that it is one-tenth the size of a car and can reach speeds of up to 20 mph. Dot is engineered specifically for local commerce, and with the introduction of the Autonomous Delivery Platform, it marks a significant advancement toward a more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive delivery system for communities everywhere.
