Alphabet-owned robotics software company Intrinsic joins Google

In a significant step towards enhancing physical AI, Google has announced the integration of Intrinsic, a robotics software platform owned by Alphabet. This collaboration, revealed on Wednesday, aims to make industrial robots more accessible through advanced AI models and software. Intrinsic will maintain its identity within Google while collaborating closely with Google DeepMind. The partnership will leverage Google's Gemini AI models and cloud capabilities to further its mission. Although Alphabet has not disclosed financial details regarding the acquisition, Intrinsic has been a notable player since it became an independent entity under Alphabet in 2021, following five years within the company’s X division, known for its ambitious research projects. Wendy Tan White, CEO of Intrinsic, has led the company through rapid growth, including its acquisition of Vicarious, another robotics software firm, shortly after becoming independent. This venture aimed to bolster its capabilities, despite the challenges posed by a 20% workforce reduction in early 2023. Intrinsic’s flagship product, Flowstate, was launched to assist developers without extensive robotics backgrounds in creating workflows. This aligns with the company’s vision to democratize robotics technology. The firm has since enhanced its offerings, including the release of the Intrinsic Vision AI model. In October 2025, Intrinsic announced a joint venture with Foxconn to develop intelligent robots, aiming for full automation in electronics manufacturing. With the recent collaboration with Google, Tan White expressed optimism about unlocking the potential of physical AI, stating it will transform manufacturing operations and economics. This strategic move aligns with industry perspectives that view physical AI as the next frontier for monetizing AI technologies.
