Intel makes a bid for handheld gaming PCs with new Arc G3 processors

In a significant move for the handheld gaming sector, Intel has unveiled its latest innovations with the introduction of the Arc G-series processors. Historically, most handheld gaming devices, like those resembling the Steam Deck, have relied heavily on AMD's Ryzen Z-series chips, designed specifically for enhanced performance in compact systems. While there have been some handhelds utilizing Intel technology, such as MSI's Claw, this marks Intel's first dedicated foray into gaming-focused silicon. The new Intel Arc G-series processors promise to optimize handheld gaming by integrating the company’s impressive Arc B-series graphics capabilities. Intel has announced that a variety of gaming handhelds powered by these processors are expected to debut as early as June 2026, with wider availability anticipated throughout the year. Notable models set to feature these new chips include an updated version of MSI's Claw, Acer's Predator Atlas 8, and a device from OneXPlayer. Unlike previous iterations, the Arc branding here encompasses a complete chip solution, integrating the CPU, GPU, NPU, and additional components. The G-series processors share many architectural similarities with Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 chips, also known as Panther Lake, which are currently utilized in premium thin-and-light laptops. However, the G-series features a distinct configuration of CPU and GPU cores that sets it apart from the Core Ultra lineup, tailored specifically for the demands of handheld gaming.
