You can now edit your Instagram comments

Instagram has rolled out a much-anticipated update that allows users to edit their comments, a feature many have been requesting for some time. Announced on Thursday, this new capability addresses a common frustration for users who often found themselves deleting and reposting comments just to correct a simple typo. However, there is a limitation: users have a 15-minute window following the initial post to make any edits. During this period, comments can be modified multiple times. Once a comment is edited, it will be marked as such for other users, although they won't have access to the original text, which differs from platforms like iMessage that offer edit history visibility. It's important to note that only text within comments can be modified; if a comment includes an image, the text can be changed, but the accompanying photo remains unchanged. While this feature may seem minor, it signifies Instagram's ongoing commitment to improving user experience and addressing past grievances. Interestingly, some users had already noticed this feature in testing prior to the official announcement, leading to a wave of positive reactions online. Comments ranged from "It’s about time" to lighthearted remarks about the lengthy wait for this update. On the same day, Instagram also disclosed plans to limit certain content types for accounts belonging to users under 18, particularly in relation to films rated 13+. This move comes as the platform faces increased scrutiny regarding its influence on younger audiences. Recently, Meta, Instagram's parent company, has encountered significant legal challenges, including a ruling in New Mexico that deemed the company responsible for jeopardizing child safety, and a jury decision in Los Angeles that found Meta's app design intentionally addictive to children and teens. Additionally, numerous legal cases remain unresolved, with 40 state attorneys general currently pursuing action against the company.
